In Carmen Maria Machado's In the Dream House, the author uses the story of Bluebeard to illustrate tolerance in domestic abuse situations. The song Predator by Toni Childs from her album The Woman's Boat references Bluebeard in its lyrics.

Carradine is fantastic. This is a great role for him, displaying diverse talents. He is unfortunately not directed with any subtlety, and it is clear that he is the villain from the beginning, so this becomes more a story of "will the villain be redeemed by love?" That makes this film more interesting than a standard thriller.

The Parisian setting worked well, with the Seine playing a crucial role throughout the film.
